The New Rustic Kitchen; where everything is prepared on the premises, with a mix of traditional and modern techniques, using local products well presented, sometimes with a twist, but never with too much fuss and where the dish is always recognisable as food.
The weekly changing menu has an Andalusian touch and offers a variety of local and seasonal produce from the market gardens of the Ronda mountain range, like its goats’ cheeses, mushrooms, Iberian pork, organic wines, cherries and chestnuts. The wine list is varied, and we take special care in offering you natural and organic wines from small family run bodegas located here in the area (DO Sierras de Málaga, Ronda). Many of the wines on offer can also be ordered by the glass.
One thing we can guarantee you is that we want you to enjoy your food and wine as much as we do.
Platero & Co is situated in the old town of Gaucin, a historic “pueblo blanco” settled dramatically in the Serranía de Ronda overlooking the Mediterranean coast and the Genal and Guadiaro valleys and is surrounded by mountains covered with forests abundant with chestnuts, cork oaks, pine, cherry and almond trees and rosemary.
Dining al fresco on our private terrace whilst enjoying the spectacular views towards the Guadiaro Valley and the surrounding mountains of the Serranía de Ronda. We serve you on the terrace when the weather permits it, from spring to autumn. On chilly evenings and the cooler winter days we will make sure you are warm and comfortable in the dining area of our charming little restaurant.
We offer lunch and dinner for a maximum of 5 to 6 tables and have capacity for a maximum of 15 guests at a time; this is how we can offer you a personal service in friendly surroundings where you will feel at home.
Platero y Yo, or Platero and I, the classic Andalusian work of the Nobel prize winner Juan Ramón Jimenez was the inspiration for the restaurant’s name. Platero, a donkey, is the main caracter and remains a symbol of tenderness, purity and naivite, and is used by the author as a means of reflection about his childhood memories in Andalusia and the simple joys of life.
We are Hellen Blott and Barry Smit; a couple of Dutch origin but Andalusian at heart. Together we have over 40 years of experience in the catering and tourism industry. Before we opened the doors of Platero & Co we successfully ran restaurant Mesón La Pozuela in the neighbouring village of Jubrique.
Hellen, front of house, will take care of you. She has a passion for local wines and can give you information about sights and walks in the Serranía.
Chef in heart and soul, Barry, is responsible for everything on your plate. He has worked as a chef all his professional life and is afraid that that´s all he can do.
